WATER CARE – TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
Issue Cause Remedy
Cloudy Water
 
Contaminants in the water which are too small to filter out.  Sanitisers have dropped too low. Check chemicals balances and adjust, shock dose spa.  Clean the Filter. Read Article “How to Fix Cloudy Water
Foam
 
Build up of body lotions, cosmetics, laundry detergent or organic contaminants. For new water, leave to settle for a few days, if still foam present add one small capful of antifoam, then pool clarifier 100ml per 1000 litre of water, clean the filter, address chemical balances.
Green Water
 
Organic contaminants causing an active bacteria to grow in the water.  Lack of cleanliness and sanitisers have dropped too low. Urgent action required, drain and clean all surfaces with a chlorine solution, flush pipes with a double shock treatment, clean the filter, refill and address chemical balances.

Brown Water
 
Organic contaminants causing an active bacteria to grow in the water.  Lack of cleanliness and sanitisers have dropped too low. Urgent action required, drain and clean all surfaces with a chlorine solution, flush pipes with a double shock treatment, clean the filter, refill and address chemical balances. White Mould (Fungai)
 
Build up of body lotions, cosmetics, laundry detergent or organic contaminants.
 
Urgent action required, drain and clean all surfaces with a chlorine solution, flush pipes with a double shock treatment, clean the filter, refill and address chemical balances. Read Article “White Mould” to resolve (same process).
Skin/Eye Irritation
 
High levels of chlorine, bromine or incorrect alkalinity/pH levels.
 
Address chemical balances, part empty and refill with fresh water.
Scale & Stains
 
High Calcium Hardness Drain water and clean with equal parts of white vinegar and distilled water, rinse and refill.  Read Article “Lime Scale & Stains
Corrosion/Etching Presence of metals in water (iron, copper, etc) Test total alkalinity levels and if necessary increase with sodium bicarbonate (pH plus).  Address chemical balances.

For new water or high hot tub usage, add a weekly dose of Non-Chlorine Shock.
